Famine 95: Yogurt Moat
by CristaeFirst on the list was a secondary jungle.
[Existentialist Dangerous Forest]
Your farm’s second forest.
Good news: No need to depend on the land’s fertility, and you can still grow a lush, vibrant jungle!
Bad news: It needs to feed on something else.
Within the boundaries of the Existentialist Forest, all plants will evolve the trait: [Carnivorous].
All [active plants] will have their aggression increased by 200%.
If no meat is provided for a period of time, the forest will begin to encroach outward.
The forest will not attack creatures bearing [Farm Owner Certification].
[Guaranteed Lost Aura]
Once you enter the forest, you will begin to question the meaning of your own existence, forget where you came from or where you’re going.
With no outside force to interfere, you will wander in the forest perpetually, forever lost.
Bonus facilities; choose one to install in the forest: [Poison Spore Mushroom Catacombs], [Little Red Riding Hood’s Road to Grandma’s House], [Reproducible Man-Eating Plant Colony].
The jungle section of the store was generally split into two evolutionary paths. The first was the farm’s forest hunting grounds, rich in resources and beneficial for use. The second, like the one before him now, was a forest brimming with peril.
Si Zhiyan had never really considered the latter before, but with the emergence of a secondary forest now, it was a perfect fit.
He’d been thinking specifically about this.
The farm was situated in the Mist Blackthorn Forest, surrounded by blackthorn deadwoods. At first, it had seemed harmless enough, but after the battle with the Eye, each blackthorn tree had revealed itself as the remains of a fallen Heaven’s Vein Martial Saint…
Although the trial was over and the blackthorn trees had returned to stillness, there lingered a constant sense of being circled by wolves.
Buzz!
Si Zhiyan installed the [Existentialist Dangerous Forest], encircling the farm entirely.
A full ring around the farm.
It felt better to leave the closest spaces for his own people.
As for the daily coming and going of the farm’s residents…
Si Zhiyan carefully examined the bonus facilities.
[Poison Spore Mushroom Catacombs] was a trap facility, burrowing a huge and lethal catacomb beneath the forest. Since the surface forest was already dangerous enough, this could be skipped for now.
[Reproducible Man-Eating Plant Colony] would populate the forest with a host of growing carnivorous plants—belligerent and extremely dangerous. Their rapid reproduction meant they could soon become an army of man-eaters.
The combat potential was good, but the plant colony had no intelligence and did not acknowledge the farm owner’s permission—by default, they attacked indiscriminately. For the worker players, it would simply be too dangerous.
In the end, Si Zhiyan chose the most conventional option.
[Little Red Riding Hood’s Road to Grandma’s House]
The road a little girl travels every day.
As long as you walk the road through the dangerous forest and do not stray, nothing will happen.
Please do not leave the road.
If you have already left it, please forget the road ever existed.
Despite the aggressive tone, such strictly rule-based installations all shared one advantage—
As long as you don’t act recklessly or break the rules, it’s basically safe.
It would serve well as an ordinary path in and out for uncertified players.
Si Zhiyan placed [Grandma’s Road] at the edge of the forest, running a fence along the route. He called Yun Zhong over to set up several handler posts, assigning daily deliveries of fresh chicken to feed the forest and keep it contained.
He erected warning placards at the entrance to remind everyone: never stray from the main path. @Unlimited good stories, only at Jinjiang Literature City
At both ends of the path, supervisor posts were added. These staff distributed certifications for emergency needs. @Unlimited good stories, only at Jinjiang Literature City
The basic intelligence of the farm residents really didn’t worry Si Zhiyan much.
After seven years of the Famine Game descending, the stubborn, fatalist types who liked tempting fate had all gotten what they deserved.
Any that remained were rare specimens—perhaps nature tested by the milk bath, transformed into the most adorable calves in the herd.
With this, the [Existentialist Dangerous Forest] served as the farm’s first defensive barrier—a solely natural zone defense installation.
The aura would mislead invaders who tried to enter by road, while the forest itself bristled with deadly threats: truly formidable.
Next time, should enemies like the Blackthorn Forest or Swan Moth Horde appear, the farm’s residents wouldn’t have to exhaust themselves cleaning up.
Si Zhiyan flew high above the land, overlooking the heart of the apocalypse.
Through dense mist, the visibility was poor; he could just make out the strange black corpse-forest stretching to the horizon; thick fog and shifting specters loomed all around.
Yet at the very center of this apocalyptic world, there was an expanse of crystalline green. The farm was surrounded by flourishing forest, bathed in sunlight, walled and proud; within, vivid greenery and sparkling lakes intertwined with the colorful Fantasia Town, and there was a broad, beautiful flower field.
An oasis in a bizarre apocalypse.
Si Zhiyan nodded in satisfaction.
With the forest settled,
it was time for—

Hotline for orders: XXXX-XXXXXX
That last hotline—strange, for it wasn’t written in any human script. Instead, it looked like a twisted ball of symbols, somewhat unnerving; but look closer, one could just discern some numbers in it.
Children’s severed limbs… Hm… Si Zhiyan’s brow twitched. He decided not to scrutinize that order hotline further.
Don’t look for trouble and you’ll live longer.jpg
Though it looked like just a food plaything, Si Zhiyan sharply noticed: this moat had an extremely potent special effect—
[The yogurt river contains no impurities, will not be fouled, and no toxic or harmful germ can cross it!]
It seemed edible, but for the farm, it was a powerful area-wide disinfectant moat.
After all, it was a toy for children, so it was only graded A; maybe it couldn’t handle truly exceptional viruses, but even so, it was more than enough to protect the farm at present.
The yogurt moat had a limited maximum length, so it couldn’t encircle the farm.
The largest gathering area by far was Fantasia Town. Si Zhiyan simply ran the moat from the farm’s main gate, directly along the main road to Fantasia Town, circling around the whole town, and ending finally at the [Little Flower Field].
He bought some small bridges from the Mall to span the moat.
Now, common viruses and pathogens would never threaten the farm again. @Unlimited good stories, only at Jinjiang Literature City
For some apocalypses, the end was caused by viruses… so plugging this gap meant a huge hidden danger was solved.
Of course, beyond these functional uses…
“Wow, it’s yogurt! So much! The yogurt is a river…!!”
In the flower field, the little girl Li Yutong lay on the ground, starry-eyed, staring at the Yogurt Moat.
The white liquid was thick and silky, like satin, permeated with the rich fragrance of yogurt, blending with the smell of flowers, flowing gently past the flower field.
“Can I drink it? Can I, can I?”
Yun Shengsheng—wearing a flower crown woven by Li Yutong—sat by her basket next to her, holding her mouth to stifle a laugh:
“The farm owner is such a gentle grownup—if it wasn’t safe to drink, he’d definitely tell us.”
“If he says nothing, then there’s nothing to worry about.”
The little flower field was full of convalescing patients and those who’d come to play. Voices of surprise and delight rang out one after another.
“Hmm…” Yun Shengsheng rummaged in her basket, pulling out a couple of water bottles. She poured the leftover water from each cup into one jug, freeing an empty bottle, and handed it to Li Yutong. “Here. Go fetch some.”
When the cup lid brushed above the yogurt, a few flower petals on it instantly dissolved.
Impurities would not enter the yogurt river.
Li Yutong filled a cup with yogurt, and she and Yun Shengsheng snuggled up, cradling their drinks and sipping together.
The yogurt was rich and creamy: perfectly fermented and subtly sweetened for a child’s palate. It brimmed with the essence of cheese—one sip filled the mouth with milky aroma, but never cloying, just a fragrant, tangy freshness that lingered between lips and teeth.
Maybe because the cups were filled in the flower field, a faint floral note lingered at the rim—making the experience all the more enchanting.
“So good…” Li Yutong’s voice floated as she grinned, “I’m definitely bringing some home for my mom.”
“I’ll take a cup to my brother,” said Yun Shengsheng with a smile.
The two girls drank from their cups, one mouthful after another, soon draining every drop. When they heard other flavors were available, Li Yutong picked up Yun Shengsheng and they went off to try each one.
Seeing how much fun they were having, the others joined in as well. With each sip, their eyes lit up, and the flower field bubbled with excitement.
Nearby, a newly arrived player sat among the flowers and marveled, “You all really trust this farm owner.”
This was, after all, the Famine Game—where any found food generally meant mortal peril. Yet the farm’s children ate with complete innocence, tasting every new food without a care…
And the only reason? Because, if it wasn’t safe to eat, the farm owner would definitely tell them so.
“Of course!” Li Yutong smiled, holding her jug aloft. “The farm owner is the best—he’s the gentlest god in the world.”
Si Zhiyan, up in the sky: “…”
Somewhat moved, but, wait a minute… best what, exactly?
Forget it, best not to dwell on that for now.
Aside from all these fixed facilities, the farm also awarded Si Zhiyan 3 million credits.
The farm’s defense was more than sufficient; the [Word Guillotine] could be reserved for now. These 3 million points could be spent on other necessities.
And as for what to buy, Si Zhiyan had already made his plans.
