Magic Farm 150
by CristaeChapter 150: I Want to Talk to Teacher Aegnor
Qi Yu and Dan Xingyu weren’t wrong.
That display of intimidation had indeed deterred anyone from making further moves against them, but covert surveillance was far from over.
From the moment they left the duke’s mansion, every word they spoke, every action they took, was under the watchful eyes of others.
With their identities as “an elf and a dragon knight from legendary lands,” whatever the two of them did, no one seemed to find it odd.
When they went to a large general store and bought piles of goods—some for keeping cool, some for keeping warm—people simply assumed, “They’ve never seen these things before, they’re curious, and anyway, they’re not short of money and have storage items, so they spend freely without a care.”
Going to a bookstore was even more understandable—who knew which mysterious family they hailed from? Wanting to read and learn about the outside world was perfectly reasonable.
Even when Qi Yu dropped his disguise as soon as he stepped outside, reverting to black hair and black eyes, someone immediately found a justification for him.
Elves were simply too conspicuous. If he didn’t change his appearance, he’d never make it down the street in Ophelie without being stared at from all sides.
Still, some thought the elf was too inexperienced: if you want to blend in, at least make yourself look ordinary.
Just changing hair and eye color—while their faces were still so striking—did little to make them less noticeable.
The original plan was to spend the full twenty-four hours in Ophelie.
But their experience at the duke’s mansion had been far from pleasant.
And it was clear both of them had been a bit rattled.
After shopping, they tried some of the Kyra Empire’s specialty dishes at a restaurant recommended by a shopkeeper, just as evening was falling.
“Shall we head back?” Qi Yu asked.
Dan Xingyu, hands behind his back, followed him, kicking at pebbles along the roadside with a cheerful smile. “I told you, when I’m out with you, I’ll follow your lead.”
Qi Yu said, “Then let’s go home.”
He summoned his survival panel and selected “End Commission.”
Soon, the sound of hoofbeats echoed down the street.
Dan Xingyu’s eyes widened in surprise: ahead was a narrow, dead-end alley, with no way through.
This wild carriage had definitely emerged from the void, or some dimensional space.
Qi Yu glanced back and said quietly, “Let’s go.”
The two boarded the carriage and, in the blink of an eye, their presence vanished completely from Ophelie’s royal city.
To the “eyes” watching them, it was as if these two mysterious young men had walked into a secluded alley, stood there for a moment, and then—along with their auras—vanished without a trace.
Soon, several beams of light appeared at the spot.
Someone closed their eyes to sense the area, then said, “Their traces have vanished from the entire royal city of Ophelie. This is… spatial power?”
Either they’d used a very rare spatial teleportation artifact to leave—
Or… the one from earlier had personally intervened and taken them away.
A voice murmured, “With someone like that behind them, it’s hardly surprising they have some trump cards.”
A graceful female voice spoke slowly, “Gentlemen, I advise you not to pursue them further. The one behind them is not someone you can afford to provoke.”
A voice snorted coldly, “I may have been a bit rough earlier, but what I said was true. Elves and dragons, long vanished from the world, appearing in the royal city—I must get to the bottom of it.”
Earlier, those who had acted may have been direct and even condescending toward the two juniors, but from start to finish, none had shown the slightest intent to kill Qi Yu or Dan Xingyu.
Clearly, everyone was being cautious: to appear so openly, they must have something to rely on.
Their “actions” had been more of a test.
The only surprise was that the trump card they encountered was far too hard—leaving them battered and bruised.
The female voice said, “Perhaps the two young friends were simply struck by a whim and came to Ophelie to see the sights?”
The others: …
Do you believe that yourself?
With their targets vanished, the group lost all interest in small talk.
Soon, only the woman’s voice remained in the alley.
Night had fallen, and the warm yellow light from a house illuminated one side of the alley, casting shadows across her elegant features.
It was none other than Colleen, the archmage who had helped Qi Yu and his companion earlier.
“Sigh.” She let out a soft sigh. “I was telling the truth—why does no one ever believe it?”
An afternoon had been enough for Ophelie’s Mage Association to dig up what little information they had on Qi Yu.
There was very little, but every detail was astonishing.
A month ago, he had appeared in a small city called Gold Cavern in the Blackrock Mountains to undergo mage certification.
Nineteen years old, third-level mage.
During his certification, he had triggered a magical elemental phenomenon and received the blessing of the Supreme Mage God.
After that, he vanished without a trace, only to reappear today in Ophelie—this time with a dragon knight friend in tow.
Nineteen years old, third-level mage—an astonishing talent.
But the Mage Association in Ophelie was still puzzled: was this young man named Qi Yu human, or elf?
From his appearance today, he was unmistakably an elf.
And with the one behind him, his elven identity should have been beyond doubt.
Yet, on his registration form in Gold Cavern, he had listed himself as human, and his tested age was nineteen.
Nineteen was very young for a human. For an elf, it was nothing but a baby.
.
After stirring up a storm of suspicion and attention, the two of them simply patted the little alchemy horse and went home.
In the blink of an eye, they were back in the Forest of Stars.
Both Qi Yu and Dan Xingyu let out a sigh of relief.
Dan Xingyu remarked, “That royal city is so convenient, the climate so pleasant. But only now do I feel the comfort of being home.”
Qi Yu, feeding beast crystals to the little alchemy horse, looked over curiously. “So you’re starting to feel at home in my territory too?”
Dan Xingyu smiled at him. “Yes, it’s just as comfortable as my own land. If the Golden Desert ever becomes unbearable, Lord Warden, I hope you’ll take me in.”
Qi Yu replied without hesitation, “No problem. My territory’s huge—you can live wherever you like.”
Dan Xingyu raised an eyebrow, pushing his luck. “Even in your treehouse?”
Qi Yu said, “Of course. My treehouse is so big, there’s plenty of room for one more.”
He heard Dan Xingyu sigh softly, “Lord Warden, you’re so easygoing—aren’t you afraid I’ll move in and take over?”
Qi Yu took a moment to process his words.
Then he smiled. “I’m not afraid.”
“Hm?”
The last bit of beast crystal was licked clean from his palm by the little horse. Qi Yu stroked its warm, real-feeling head, then turned back and said seriously, “You don’t have to take it—I can give it to you.”
“I only need a small room for myself.”
And if not, sleeping under the World Tree would be just fine.
Dan Xingyu stared at him, then quickly looked away. “Hmph, I have a palace much bigger than your treehouse. I won’t steal your little room.”
The little horse trotted away.
Night had fallen.
Dan Xingyu said, “I should head home, Lord Warden.”
They had bought a lot of things, and needed to sort them out and put up anything for trade.
Qi Yu said, “Mm, see you tomorrow.”
Dan Xingyu didn’t move.
Qi Yu asked, “Is there something else?”
Dan Xingyu said, “Well, let’s wait a bit. Isn’t there supposed to be a mission settlement on the panel?”
No sooner had he spoken than he sensed a change in his survival panel. “It’s here.”
Qi Yu couldn’t see his panel, but could more or less guess what he was seeing.
He opened his own survival panel.
As he did, the reputation leaderboard suddenly flashed.
Where before there had been only the lone “Forest of Stars” entry, now there was a new region.
And the numbers had changed dramatically.
First place: Forest of Stars, Reputation 3660.
Second place: Golden Desert, Reputation 3000.
Qi Yu was stunned. Previously, after visiting Gold Cavern, the Winter Tundra, and meeting the Gares siblings in the resource zone, he’d only accumulated 660 reputation points.
Yet a single trip to Ophelie’s royal city had earned him 3000!
He couldn’t help but recall the people he’d met—the duke’s family, and all those “dumplings” in the sky.
He marveled: they were worth that much!
As he pondered this, the numbers on the leaderboard changed again.
Forest of Stars: 3660 to 3680.
Golden Desert: 3000 to 3020.
The numbers were still climbing, slowly.
It seemed, perhaps because they had teamed up, the increase in reputation was the same for both of them.
Dan Xingyu suddenly looked up and told Qi Yu, “All the players in our region received a reward.”
Last time, when Qi Yu unlocked the reputation leaderboard and triggered a server-wide announcement, every player in Zone 01 received a random green resource reward.
This time, perhaps because the Golden Desert was in second place, there was no global announcement—but every player in Zone 88 received a message, and a normal resource reward appeared in their inventory.
Now, the entire regional chat was wailing in excitement.
Dan Xingyu ignored the flood of @s for the moment.
He said dramatically, “This time I really hit the jackpot following Lord Warden. A server-wide resource reward—oh no, I don’t think I could pay this debt off even if I sold myself.”
Qi Yu: ?
“No need to sell yourself.”
Dan Xingyu’s tone sounded almost regretful. “Really? I’m being so forward—miss this chance and it’ll never come again.”
Qi Yu let the topic slide and rummaged through his inventory. “Almost forgot these.”
A pile of treasure boxes—the “unexpected windfall” from their trip to Ophelie.
Exactly twenty.
He counted out ten. “Half for you.”
Dan Xingyu: “Nonono! Going to Ophelie was your commission, and driving off those locals had nothing to do with me. I don’t want these!”
Qi Yu said, “But they were all drawn by your little dragon. Without it, we wouldn’t have gotten so much reputation.”
Dan Xingyu still refused.
Qi Yu thought for a moment, then threatened, “If you don’t take them, I won’t invite you to team up next time.”
Though it was a threat, his tone was flat and gentle, not the least bit fierce.
But that only made it clear he wasn’t bluffing—he really would do it.
Dan Xingyu meekly accepted the boxes.
Qi Yu waved at him, his tone light, “Suit yourself, Dan Xingyu. I’m off to find Teacher Aegnor for a chat.”
His personal panel was bustling with activity, too.
But he had no time for that now.
He had so much he wanted to say.
Dan Xingyu guessed that this “Teacher Aegnor” was most likely the mysterious powerhouse who had protected the local today.
He had just been lucky enough to bask in his presence.
