Chapter 157: Good Brothers Don’t Seem to Act Like This

Qi Yu felt as though he had spent an especially joyful day in the Golden Sand Desert.

He was led by Dan Xingyu on a tour of the entire grand palace.

    It was truly beautiful.

In his heart, this glittering, golden mansion was only a little less wonderful than his own treehouse—a ranking based solely on his deep affection for his home, which outweighed any aesthetic judgment.

In the afternoon, he followed Dan Xingyu beyond the borders of the territory to experience the Golden Sand Desert as it truly was, without the benefit of a temperature-regulating magic array.

After two minutes, he quietly took out the Guardian Mage Robe from his backpack and put it on.

Then he used his magic to construct a barrier.

The magic barrier was a new skill he had learned after advancing to four-star mage.

He even put one on Dan Xingyu as well, earning himself a grateful—and very warm—hug.

The Golden Sand Desert was the kind of place that stunned and amazed at first glance, but after a while, it grew monotonous.

Because all one could ever see with the naked eye was endless yellow sand.

Dan Xingyu even took him to a mining site, showing Qi Yu how he usually mined ore.

Back at the territory, Qi Yu thought to himself that he should treat Dan Xingyu even better in the future. Living in the Golden Sand Desert seemed like such a hardship.

Until today, he had never realized just how important vibrant plants and moist air were to him.

As he pondered this, he suddenly froze: he realized he was actually feeling disdain for the Golden Sand Desert.

The discovery surprised him: He had only been in the survival game for a little over a month, and he was already becoming so picky?

Even though the Golden Sand Desert was hot, it was safe, you could mine, hunt mutant creatures, open treasure chests, and there was no shortage of food.

If, a month ago, he had been randomly assigned to the Golden Sand Desert, he would have been just as grateful.

    He silently reflected on himself.

    Survival game, you’ve spoiled me.

The two of them wandered the desert for several hours that afternoon, finding several types of mutant creatures that roamed the sands.

That night, the meat from those mutant creatures ended up on their dinner table.

As promised, Dan Xingyu did not go back on his word about having a barbecue that evening.

Qi Yu followed behind him, watching as he processed the beast meat, seasoned and marinated it, and then joined him in whittling wooden skewers and threading the meat.

Delicious food was so much trouble to prepare. He thought, no wonder Dan Xingyu’s cooking tasted so good.

If it were up to him, he would just throw the seasoning and meat into a pot and boil it together. Or he’d skewer the meat on a branch and roast it until it was cooked.

A perfect day—except for the fact that Dan Xingyu kept casting glances his way.

Several times, Qi Yu looked back, only to meet his gaze.

Dan Xingyu didn’t try to hide it. When caught, he would simply smile at him, openly and without embarrassment.

And when he saw Qi Yu’s puzzled expression, he would smile even more.

After they had eaten and drunk their fill, and Qi Yu was getting ready to head home, he heard Dan Xingyu say, “Qi Yu, you have such a good temper.”

    Qi Yu: “What?”

Dan Xingyu: “I stared at you all day, and even though you clearly felt offended, you never said a word.”

“Offended?” Qi Yu shook his head, answering straightforwardly, “I didn’t feel offended at all. I’m right here—if you want to look, just look.”

He’d never had a friend this close before, so he didn’t have much experience with how friends should interact. He could only figure it out bit by bit from Dan Xingyu.

“If I felt uncomfortable, I would say so,” he said.

The little local’s attitude toward friends could only be described as “indulgent.”

Dan Xingyu was pleased by Qi Yu’s attitude, but at the same time, he couldn’t help but wonder: Was he like this with other friends too?

He didn’t know what to make of his own thoughts, but he said aloud, “You don’t mind me staring at you, so… what about a hug?”

Qi Yu asked him curiously, “Haven’t we hugged before?”

Dan Xingyu actually understood what he meant: If I minded, those previous hugs wouldn’t have happened.

He drew a soft breath and opened his arms. “Then, how about a hug before we say goodbye today, Qi Yu-ge?”

“Oh! I get it now.” Qi Yu felt he finally understood why Dan Xingyu was acting so strangely.

He stepped forward and gave Dan Xingyu a hug, saying cheerfully, “Are you reluctant to see me go?”

Dan Xingyu’s breath hitched for a moment.

The next second, he felt Qi Yu patting his back gently, as if soothing a little child.

Then he heard him say, “When you came to visit the Forest of Stars and had to go home, I felt a bit reluctant to see you go, too.”

Being with Dan Xingyu was truly enjoyable. He even thought that it would be wonderful if the two of them lived in the same territory.

Qi Yu said, “If you don’t want me to leave, I can stay a little longer. Or you can come back with me, and we can train together under the Life Tree.”

    Dan Xingyu was genuinely tempted.

But he refused: “That’s a shame, I still have things to do tonight.”

“Then, see you tomorrow.” Qi Yu patted his back again. “We’ve hugged long enough, you can let go now.”

On the way back, they had to pass by Dan Xingyu’s bedroom again.

Qi Yu couldn’t help but let his gaze linger several times on that enormous bed.

Dan Xingyu laughed and said, “Interested? If you ever have time, I’ll let you have the big bed for a night.”

Qi Yu was indeed interested. He’d never seen such a huge bed before.

Hearing Dan Xingyu say this, he asked curiously, “Why would you let me have it? This bed is as big as some people’s whole rooms.”

He gestured with his hands, “We could both sleep on it and still be this far apart.”

    Dan Xingyu: “……”

He drew a soft breath, watching Qi Yu step into the portal before finally raising a hand to cover his forehead.

    Heavens.

    Something doesn’t feel right.

He didn’t even want to move anymore, so he just sat down on the balcony.

    He opened his personal panel.

    【Shen Benwuxiang: .】

【My Retirement: Second God, did our game daddy go home?】

【Shen Benwuxiang: How do you know again?】

【My Retirement: The whole region knows, okay? You only showed up in the regional channel once this morning to brag, then disappeared for the rest of the day.】

【My Retirement: If game daddy hadn’t left, would you have time to chat with us?】

【The Days Are Long: As soon as game daddy shows up, Second God has no time for us poor folks in Zone 88.】

【The Days Are Long: Second God, I swear I mean no shade, on the contrary, I totally support you clinging tight to game daddy’s thigh!】

【Shen Benwuxiang: I’m thinking about something right now.】

【Shen Benwuxiang: Has any of you… never mind.】

    【The Days Are Long: ???】

【The Days Are Long: Don’t leave us hanging, Second God.】

【Shen Benwuxiang: It’s nothing, I’ll figure it out myself. You unfilial brats are useless anyway.】

The group chat was full of question marks again. Feeling frustrated, Dan Xingyu simply closed his panel and looked up at the sky.

What a pity, he thought. If this were Blue Star, in this kind of environment, he might be able to see a sky full of brilliant stars at night.

But in the survival game, there was only thick darkness.

As he gazed upward, the heavy night turned into a pale, unadorned face.

Dan Xingyu blinked. “This really might be the end.”

He hadn’t thought it strange when anything magic-related reminded him of the little local.

He hadn’t thought it strange when his gaze kept drifting toward the little local.

He hadn’t thought it strange when he wanted to get closer, always wanting to reach out and touch him.

He hadn’t thought it strange that he didn’t just tolerate but even craved hugging him.

But during the day, when he stared at the little local’s snowy white cheek at close range, he actually had the urge to take a gentle bite and taste it.

    That was very bad.

This was not something that could be explained away as just being close brothers.

The most perverse part was, even now, recalling that moment, he still wanted to take a bite.

    .

He returned home through the portal.

Moist air and natural magic instantly surged up to envelop him.

    So comfortable.

    Home really was the best.

Qi Yu happily began casting blessing magic in bulk over the whole territory, making the bluebell flower sprites flit over in a panic, asking if something had happened to their lord.

Qi Yu: “Nothing’s happened, what’s wrong?”

The bluebell sprite fluttered its wings, puzzled. “Then why is Lord casting so many blessings?”

It had nearly burst into tears just now, thinking something terrible was about to happen to the territory, that their lord was going to abandon them, and this was their last good meal.

Qi Yu understood what it meant and couldn’t help but laugh and cry. “No, no, the territory is fine, I’m fine too. If everyone likes blessing magic, I’ll cast it often.”

After comforting the sprites, he took a bath and returned to the Life Tree, planning to use cultivation instead of rest tonight as well.

Before cultivating, he opened the survival panel to deal with the backlog of messages and trades.

A usually quiet group chat actually had new messages.

It was “Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven” and “Jiangnan Misty Guest.”

Qi Yu first handled the trade section. The supplies he’d put up from Ophelia City had all sold out.

For the temperature-regulating magic array, he’d posted a pre-order, and over thirty players had placed orders—he glanced at the list and recognized all the IDs.

The chat in the Zone 01 squad was routine, nothing major.

Only then did Qi Yu open the sibling duo’s group chat.

Turned out, they had gotten a random region exploration blueprint, but hadn’t gotten a team scroll, so they wanted to ask if he would sell one.

【I Love Survival Games: Not for sale.】

【Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven: Okay.】

【Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven: I plan to go exploring soon and will bring a teleportation scroll. Any other tips you can share, big boss?】

[Your friend “Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven” has sent you a gift.]

【Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven: Big boss, how about opening a paid consulting service?】

    Qi Yu did not accept.

【I Love Survival Games: No tips. This world is huge. I’ve never visited the same place twice in my explorations. The place you end up is probably somewhere I’ve never been either.】

【I Love Survival Games: As long as you have a teleportation scroll, you’ll be safe. The rest is up to you.】

These two siblings had made it to the top of the rankings; they must have their own unique opportunities and abilities.

Seeing he didn’t accept the gift, “Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven” didn’t insist, but sent another message.

【Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven: I heard that “My Fate Is Mine, Not Heaven’s” went out exploring today.】

【Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven: Apparently, things aren’t going well for him.】

    【I Love Survival Games: ?】

He was puzzled—how did she know something like this?

And puzzled as to why she was telling him.

He had no interest in “My Fate Is Mine, Not Heaven’s.”

But “Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven” seemed eager to share and explained on her own:

【Reaching for the Moon in the Ninth Heaven: Someone near him is selling information. Apparently, he’s been captured and locked up by the natives, and can’t escape.】

It was this very news that made her a bit nervous.
