    Chapter 98: Little Alien?

“I feel happy for this simple, tangible joy right in front of me. What about you, Qi Yu?”

    Half a month ago?

Qi Yu did a quick calculation. Including the novice period, they’d been in Survival Game for over twenty days now.

Half a month ago, just a few days after entering the game, he didn’t have such a nice house, nor did he have so much delicious food.

He studied the instructions on the instant noodle packaging, nodded, and agreed wholeheartedly, “I feel very happy too.”

But he had to seriously object to one thing: “This is clean, delicious food, not junk.”

How could such well-packaged food be called junk?

    Dan Xingyu was taken aback.

“Junk food” was just something he said casually—anyone from Blue Star would know it wasn’t meant literally.

Qi Yu’s earnest rebuttal left him at a loss.

After a moment of silence, he asked softly, “What are you doing right now?”

Qi Yu replied, “I’m reading the instructions. It says you have to soak these noodles in boiling water before eating. So I’m going to the kitchen to boil some water.”

    Dan Xingyu: “……”

His mind began to rapidly replay memories, every conversation and interaction he’d had with Qi Yu.

    Never played games.

    Didn’t know Catman Hero.

    Hadn’t watched movies.

Many times, Qi Yu didn’t even understand some of Blue Star’s basic common knowledge. He’d never noticed any flaws in Qi Yu’s clumsy attempts to hide his age.

He’d once thought it was just because Qi Yu was a homebody a decade older than himself—a generation gap was normal.

Later, he learned Qi Yu was only a year older than him, but since he’d also lied about his age, he never thought too much about it.

Until just now, when Qi Yu didn’t even know what “junk food” was.

    Dan Xingyu was shocked.

He remembered the only time they’d met.

Or maybe it was better called a fateful, accidental encounter.

All the players, himself included, had been dressed in ugly, unflattering clothes.

But Qi Yu had worn a particularly cool cloak, holding a staff, with a badge pinned to his cloak that looked extremely impressive at first glance.

Dan Xingyu had noticed that many of the native professionals in the resource zone wore similar things.

    Oi!

He suddenly felt he might have stumbled onto some incredible truth!

    Qi Yu!

He must actually be a native of the Survival Game world!

Who knows what bug caused the game to pull him in as a Blue Star player and turn him into a Survival Game contestant!

But from their conversations, Qi Yu himself didn’t seem to know anything about it.

Could it be that when Survival Game brought him in, it also wiped his memory?

No wonder he sometimes seemed a bit slow.

“Dan Xingyu?” Qi Yu asked, puzzled by the silence.

Dan Xingyu snapped back to himself and said, “Boil some extra water and save me a bowl.”

It was so hot in Zone 88 right now you could fry an egg on the ground—no one would torture themselves by boiling water.

    Qi Yu: “Okay.”

His kitchen was big and bright, fully equipped, though Qi Yu rarely used it.

The water boiled quickly. He ladled out a bowl and sent it to Dan Xingyu through a trade.

Dan Xingyu tore open the instant noodle package, picked up the seasoning packets, and immediately noticed something was off.

He quickly opened the vegetable packet and was shocked. “Wow, the beef noodles in Survival Game actually come with real beef!”

Qi Yu had just opened the seasoning and vegetable packets as well, following the instructions and placing everything in the noodle cup before pouring in the hot water.

He replied, puzzled, “If beef noodles don’t have beef, what kind of meat do they have?”

Dan Xingyu thought, as expected, once you spot the truth, this little alien slips up everywhere.

But then he reconsidered. Maybe he’d gotten it wrong.

Maybe we Blue Star people are the ones who’ve crossed over?

    I’m the alien after all!

    Then it’s fine.

He told Qi Yu, “Back home, we also have beef noodles, but there’s never any real meat, just a taste of technology.”

As he spoke, he couldn’t help but laugh. “In this light, Survival Game seems more conscientious than the capitalists.”

Qi Yu now sat properly at the dining table, already smelling the aroma of the instant noodles.

He wasn’t even hungry, but that smell…

“So fragrant.” He inhaled deeply, happiness written all over his face. “It feels like it’ll be especially delicious.”

Dan Xingyu thought it smelled good too.

Survival Game’s instant noodles were generous with the ingredients, and the aroma was just like real instant noodles.

Everyone knows, instant noodles are most tempting before you even start eating.

Of course, he hadn’t had instant noodles in a long time, so the sudden smell made him crave them even more.

He wasn’t surprised that Qi Yu was so easily captivated.

Little alien—no, little local—enjoy the wonders of Blue Star’s technology!

He picked up his can of cola, the cold touch making him sigh with pleasure. “The first sip of cola in Survival Game deserves a little ceremony. Come on, cheers.”

He brought the can close to the communication orb and tapped it lightly on the table.

Qi Yu understood the meaning of “cheers.”

He’d seen cans before and knew how to open them.

He pulled the tab, and, imitating Dan Xingyu, tapped it gently. “Cheers.”

The drink was ice-cold, but fortunately his territory now had a temperature-control magic array, or else drinking something this cold in this weather would have been uncomfortable.

Qi Yu took a cautious sip.

The intensely cool sensation, tinged with a slight fizz, seemed to shoot straight up to his crown.

He shivered, pausing for a moment.

Coming back to himself, he couldn’t say whether it tasted good or not, so he took another sip.

“Yep, it’s that familiar taste—chilled carbonated drinks, forever the best.” Dan Xingyu’s satisfied sigh echoed in his ear.

He remembered that the little local across from him might never have had this before. He wanted to ask, but couldn’t let on that he already knew Qi Yu wasn’t from Blue Star.

He chose his words carefully. “A lot of people can’t get used to carbonated drinks. What about you?”

Qi Yu had already finished half the can in a few gulps. He nodded. “It’s delicious!”

His tone was light, his voice rising at the end—clearly, he’d been won over by the cola.

Dan Xingyu reminded him, “Don’t soak the noodles too long. Check if they’re soft. Once they are, you can eat them—if you soak them too long, they won’t taste as good.”

Qi Yu put down the cola and lifted the lid of the instant noodles.

A cloud of steaming, fragrant vapor wafted up, nearly dizzying him with its intensity.

He looked into the cup: the golden noodles had been softened by the red, oily broth, looking perfectly springy and chewy, topped with glistening braised beef and sprinkled with fresh green scallions.

He couldn’t wait to grab a big bite with his chopsticks.

    So fragrant, so savory.

“Dan Xingyu, these noodles are so good!” Qi Yu was so enchanted he forgot his usual rule about not talking while eating. He asked eagerly, “Can you make instant noodles?”

He felt a little embarrassed, because the moment he tasted the noodles, a selfish thought flashed through his mind: it’s a pity the other cup went to Dan Xingyu, or I could have tried both flavors.

Dan Xingyu moved the communication orb away a bit, afraid Qi Yu would hear his suppressed laughter.

It was truly strange—after learning Qi Yu wasn’t from Blue Star, his every word and action seemed even more amusing.

    Are all aliens this adorable?

As expected, he hadn’t been able to resist the allure of Blue Star’s technology.

Dan Xingyu cleared his throat. “Homemade seasonings can’t quite replicate the taste of instant noodles. But this stuff—eat it once or twice and it’s amazing, but after a few times, you get tired of it.”

Qi Yu felt a pang of envy at this Blue Star perspective.

Blue Star people really ate well—such delicious things, and they could actually get tired of them.

He said, “But I only got two cups—one for you, one for me. I want to try the other flavors too. Tomorrow I’ll open more food blind boxes and hope for new noodles.”

Dan Xingyu had been laughing, but at these words, his smile faded.

He didn’t know what kind of memories Survival Game had given Qi Yu, or what kind of life Qi Yu had led before. But he was clearly a little sufferer—he’d said before that he’d never had many ordinary foods.

This was his first time tasting instant noodles and cola.

And yet he hadn’t kept them to himself, but shared one with him.

“Instant noodles are nothing—I’ll make you a deluxe seafood version tomorrow, way better than this instant stuff!” Qi Yu had no idea why the other person suddenly got so fired up.

He listened in confusion as Dan Xingyu solemnly declared, “Just wait, I’ll make you a seafood instant noodle tomorrow that’ll taste better than any fast food!”

“Oh… okay!” He didn’t know why Dan Xingyu was so fired up, but if it meant more delicious food tomorrow, he was happy.

After finishing the noodles and the rest of the cola, Qi Yu didn’t want to move.

    His eyelids started to droop.

He remembered there was something he’d wanted to tell Dan Xingyu before eating, but now he couldn’t recall it.

“I’m going to get ready for bed, Dan Xingyu.”

Dan Xingyu guessed he’d had a tough day and urged him, “Go on, go on—when you wake up, you’ll have my deluxe seafood noodles waiting for you.”

After hanging up, Qi Yu sat for a while longer before dragging himself up to wash, then collapsed into his soft bed.

He slept soundly through the night.

When he woke, it was light out.

He turned his head and, through the beautiful stained-glass window, saw the shadow of the black ancient tree.

It seemed the rain had lessened today; it wasn’t as heavy outside.

He got up and changed clothes.

    Opened the survival panel.

    [Current location: Star Forest.]

    [Today’s weather: Light rain. -10°C ~ -7°C, light breeze, level 3.]

The rain really had eased, but the temperature—how had it dropped so low?

    He opened the region channel:

[CockroachFlavorIsWeird: Damn, I got woken up by the cold in the middle of the night—I knew it was going to get much colder.]

[LittleOldMe: This crazy weather is insane. Still going out to hunt swifts? Step outside and you’ll freeze in the forest.]

[GrindKing: In my experience, you’re not cold if you keep moving. Plus, the rain’s lighter today, and there are fewer swifts. If you don’t hurry and grind points now, don’t blame anyone when you miss out on blueprints!]

Qi Yu’s mind stirred, and he opened the trading section.

The prices of all kinds of warm clothing had shot up.

He searched for down jackets and found a custom service: the buyer provided materials and paid the transaction fee, and the seller charged 10 beast crystals for processing.

Apparently, he wasn’t the only one who’d gotten the blueprint.

Qi Yu remembered his own down jacket blueprint.

    He chose to learn it.

He actually unlocked several types of down clothing at once:

[Down Jacket Long Coat: Ordinary warm clothing. Materials: Any feathers x50.]

[Down Jacket: Ordinary warm clothing. Materials: Any feathers x30.]

[Down Vest: Ordinary warm clothing. Materials: Any feathers x10.]
