    Chapter 174: Watching Fireworks

Qi Yu looked at the Silver Exploration Chest and the Reputation Blind Box that had appeared in his backpack, feeling more motivated than ever.

He didn’t rush to open them—there were still important things to do.

The float moved forward slowly. He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but it seemed that even more people had gathered below to watch than before.

After a moment’s thought, Qi Yu tapped his staff lightly, and once again a pure white radiance descended from the float, enveloping all the spectators on both sides.

    Beginner Healing Spell.

It was a spell he had learned back when he was just a level one mage. Now, when he used it, the range was broader and the effect much stronger.

Elder Roland, sitting inside the float as the anchor, listened to the never-ending exclamations from below and shook her head with a smile.

She could sense that all across Jindong City, many gazes were focused here.

Not just from the Mage Association—clearly, this child’s talent had also attracted some ill-intentioned attention.

Elder Roland sneered inwardly, her mental power spreading out. Words that ordinary people could not hear echoed in the minds of a select few:

“I advise you all to consider first—what kind of place is the Forest of Stars? And why does our Mage Association dare to let him show his full strength without concealment?”

    No one replied to her.

But after a moment, several of those gazes quietly withdrew.

Below, the residents of Jindong City called out to friends and family, bringing their loved ones along.

Those with communication spheres called their family and friends who had stayed home, saying, “A powerful and kind mage has come today—come out and see!”

Those without communication spheres simply ran home themselves to drag people out to receive the blessing magic.

Word spread from one to ten, ten to a hundred.

The reputation value climbed even faster.

[Congratulations to Zone 01’s Forest of Stars for becoming the first region in the server to surpass fifty thousand reputation points. All Zone 01 players are rewarded with ‘Reputation Blind Box’ x1.]

[Congratulations to player ‘ILoveSurvivalGame’ for becoming the first player in the server to accumulate over fifty thousand personal reputation points. System reward: ‘Gold Exploration Chest’ x1.]

Two more consecutive announcements—reputation had surpassed fifty thousand!

    Zone 01 regional channel:

[Cockroach Tastes Weird: Damn, Game Boss is still going! Will we hit a hundred thousand tonight?]

[Grind King: I did nothing at home and got two blind boxes—thanks, Game Boss.]

[Need a Little Money to Save Me: A hundred thousand probably won’t come that fast? The float parade ends at midnight, so it shouldn’t keep rising so quickly after that.]

There was another zone just as excited as Zone 01.

At first, Shan Xingyu, like Jin Qian, took a few photos and videos and posted them in the group chat.

    He’d meant to show off.

But soon he forgot all about the regional channel, focusing all his attention on watching a certain local young mage.

In other words, he got everyone interested and then left them hanging.

[No Phone Is So Hard: Where’s Second God? Where is he? I really want to know what happened next.]

[No Phone Is So Hard: Damn, this is the fourth server-wide announcement, right? Another day of being envious of Zone 01.]

[Eternal Night: With the Game God’s presence in the video, change the background and spin it a bit, and you could start a church and claim to be the reincarnation of a god—no problem at all. It’s no surprise he can keep gaining reputation nonstop.]

[Eternal Night: What surprises me is that our number one chuunibyou is actually able to sit quietly and watch the Game God take all the spotlight.]

[Retired: Eternal Night, what are you up to? Don’t try to sow discord! Who doesn’t know that Second God and Game Dad are so close they could share a pair of pants!]

[A Scorpion: I’ve been meaning to say, if Second God let his dragon out for a spin, wouldn’t the reputation value skyrocket?]

[A Scorpion: Is he really just going to watch another zone steal all the glory and enjoy all the perks?]

[The Future Is Long: @A Scorpion, I can tell whether you’re thinking of Second God’s interests or just jealous of someone else’s rewards. If we’re being honest, what’s a reputation blind box compared to a silver or gold chest? Scorpion God, I support you using an exploration scroll right now—go into the native world and amaze everyone!]

[Eternal Night: Sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it. I know the Game God and Number One have a great relationship. It’s just, now it seems their bond is even deeper than I thought.]

[Watermelon I Declare You: Am I the only one more interested in the Game God’s magic? Didn’t you see that spell—he made millions of flowers bloom in an instant! If we could use that to grow crops, wouldn’t we have a harvest in no time? My kid’s been craving fruit for over a month.]

Of course, Shan Xingyu heard the constant notifications from the survival panel. Not just the regional channel—his small group and private chats with friends hadn’t stopped either.

He had no time to bother with them.

He leaned against the float’s railing, his heart and mind filled with a single thought: If the true Spring God descended to earth, it could hardly be more wondrous than this.

The little mage was truly remarkable.

Qi Yu had no idea how much time had passed.

After casting the last blessing magic, he finally found a moment to open the survival panel.

A glance at the time—it was almost midnight.

There had been no broadcast after the fifty-thousand reputation mark. He guessed the next milestone would be one hundred thousand?

    He opened the reputation leaderboard.

At the moment, the Forest of Stars’ reputation had already reached seventy thousand.

It was so late, yet the crowds on both sides of the float hadn’t diminished—in fact, there were even more people than at the start.

Elder Roland’s voice came from behind him: “That’s enough. You can start getting ready to rest.”

Qi Yu could hear many people calling his name.

    He smiled and replied, “Coming!”

A red glow appeared at the tip of the Heart of the Greatwood staff and shot into the sky.

There, it exploded in a burst.

    Just like fireworks.

“Wow!” Everyone looked up as countless golden sparks blossomed overhead, but instead of fading like ordinary fireworks, they transformed into countless golden butterflies.

This was a third-level spell, “Spirit of Flame,” which Qi Yu had adapted after seeing the fireworks earlier.

Countless golden fire butterflies descended from the sky into the crowd.

Perhaps it was the trust everyone had in Qi Yu after a night of blessings, or perhaps the butterflies were simply too beautiful—no one tried to avoid them.

Some even reached out to catch the falling butterflies.

But as creations of pure magic, their hands were neither burned nor could they feel anything solid.

The Spirits of Flame danced through the crowd like real little sprites, fluttering about until midnight, when the float parade ended and they gradually faded away.

Elder Roland stood beside Qi Yu, gazing at the crowd below and sighing, “You’ve really given us a big problem.”

Qi Yu was puzzled. “What problem?”

Elder Roland looked at him with gentle affection. “You’ve made this year’s Spring God Festival so extraordinary.”

The mages who’d presided over the float parade in past years were not necessarily as skilled in blessing magic as Qi Yu.

And even if they were, most mages wouldn’t go out of their way to come up with so many creative ways to make ordinary people happy.

This child from the Forest of Stars had a soft, childlike heart.

“Now everyone’s expectations will be higher, and tomorrow night, the mages presiding over the parade will have a headache.”

Qi Yu understood now—Elder Roland was praising him!

His eyes filled with laughter. “The float parade was so much fun. It’s a pity I have to go home tomorrow.”

Otherwise, he’d have been happy to host a few more nights and rack up even more reputation.

Elder Roland’s aged hand patted his shoulder gently. “You’ve worked hard all night. Go back and rest early.”

Qi Yu obediently bid Elder Roland goodbye, gathered his three friends, and slipped away quickly, dodging the enthusiastic gazes of Jindong City’s people.

Jin Qian ran over to invite Qi Yu, “Boss, boss, there’s a bonfire dance and fireworks show in the second half of the night. I want to go have fun with Leslie—do you want to come?”

    Bonfire dance.

That sounded like a huge crowd.

Qi Yu shook his head. “No, I’ll go back.”

Jin Qian understood. “You’ve had a busy night—you should get some good rest!”

“What about you, Second God? Want to come with us?”

Shan Xingyu sighed regretfully, “I’m tired. I can’t join you guys tonight.”

Jin Qian wasn’t surprised. Though they hadn’t known each other long, after observing for half a day and half a night, he’d realized: this Second God from Zone 88 looked cheerful and enthusiastic, but in reality, he didn’t seem interested in anything that didn’t involve the Game Boss.

“Well, you two get some rest! See you in the morning!”

After seeing them off, Qi Yu and Shan Xingyu returned to their residence. Qi Yu said goodnight to Shan Xingyu and went back to his own room.

He changed out of the heavy clothes and took a hot shower.

    He heard some faint noises.

Quietly, he left his room, using wind element magic to float up to the rooftop.

Not far to the south of the city, a great swath of brilliant fireworks lit up the sky.

Judging by the distance, they must have specially installed soundproofing—if you didn’t listen closely, you wouldn’t hear a thing.

    So beautiful.

He sat down on the rooftop, watching intently.

Someone approached and sat down beside him.

Qi Yu was surprised. “Shan Xingyu, weren’t you tired?”

He’d thought Shan Xingyu would go to sleep.

“I’m not tired—I just told them that.” Shan Xingyu looked at him, eyes smiling. “I just wanted an excuse to come back and watch the fireworks with you.”

“How did you know I’d come out to watch the fireworks?”

Shan Xingyu said solemnly, “Of course, because I have a special ability called mind reading.”

    Qi Yu: ?

Before he could ask, Shan Xingyu couldn’t help but laugh.

“That was a lie too,” he said with a bright smile. “It’s just that Mage Lord, your thoughts are too easy to guess.”

The way you looked at the fireworks earlier was so adorable, it made me want to hug you.
